FAGD stands for “Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.” The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is one of the premiere professional dental organizations in the world. Rather than focusing on lobbying or other political agendas, the AGD’s primary focus is on the continual education of its members. AGD members as a whole are dedicated to improving their skills through continuing education and growth to ensure that their patients receive the best and most modern care possible.
Going Above and Beyond for Our Patients
AGD Fellows have made a commitment that goes beyond traditional education or state license requirements. In Oregon, a dentist is required to complete just 20 hours of continuing education per year. AGD Fellows have dedicated themselves to learning, growing, and staying current in the field well beyond this minimum requirement so they can provide the best oral care to their patients.
As an experienced Beaverton family dentist who understands the importance of proper oral health care, Dr. Barrett embraces the need to always learn more and pushes himself to provide every patient with exceptional care. With the health of his patients always in mind, Dr. Barrett elected to pursue the AGD Fellowship, which required the completion of 500 hours of advanced coursework in dental specific disciplines. Dr. Barrett was also required to pass a board-level type of exam to prove his qualifications.
As a result, Dr. Richard Barrett was recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. He was one of only five dentists in the state of Oregon to receive this prestigious honor in 2021. To put Dr. Barrett’s accomplishment in perspective, it’s estimated that only 6% of dentists in the United States will ever attain this prestigious honor.
