Tooth Bonding

To help improve the appearance and health of a patient’s smile, Dr. Richard Barret proudly offers tooth bonding cosmetic dental treatments.

What is Tooth Bonding?

Bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that uses resin to close gaps, correct crooked teeth, and restore decayed teeth back to health. Unlike the placement of dental veneers – which takes multiple appointments to complete – tooth bonding is a quick and efficient procedure that only takes a single session to improve a patient’s smile. What is Bonding Used to Treat?

Bonding ranks as among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures to complete. Dr. Barrett can shape and polish the composite resin used in bond procedures to match the surrounding teeth in order to improve the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth. It also can be used to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth appear longer, or to change the shape or color of teeth. [vision_divider style=”hr-dotted-double”]

How is the Procedure Done?

Dr. Barrett will start the bonding procedure by matching the bonding resin to the surrounding teeth using a shade guide. Once Dr. Barrett has found the matching color, he will slightly etch the surface of the tooth to roughen the enamel. The tooth will be coated lightly with a conditioning liquid, which helps the bonding material fasten to the enamel. When the tooth is prepared, Dr. Barrett will apply the tooth-colored resin to the surface of the enamel. He will then mold and smooth out the resin until formed into the desired shape. Once in place, the resin is hardened using a special ultraviolet light. After the bonding material hardens, Dr. Barrett will continue trimming and shaping the resin until perfectly smooth. Finally, Dr. Barrett will polish the material until it matches the color and sheen of the surrounding teeth.
